Keeping Your New Year's Resolution

Make New Year’s Resolutions More than Good Intentions

The National Women’s Health Resource Center is offering practical, proven suggestions on how to turn New Year’s grand resolutions into healthful achievements. The January issue of "HealthyWomen Take 10," the NWHRC’s free email newsletter, tells how to set and achieve goals that are part of New Year’s resolutions.

"Goal-setting is more than making a wish and hoping it will come true," says Amy Niles, president and CEO of the NWHRC. "It’s proven to be effective for making real changes in your physical activity level and diet."

The NWHRC says that to set and achieve your goal, research shows it helps to follow this process.

  • Recognize what you need to change.
  • Establish a specific goal.
  • Begin a goal-directed activity and have a Plan B.
  • Track your progress by keeping records.
  • Reward yourself.
  • Keep going.

"HealthyWomen Take 10" is a colorful and informative monthly e-mail newsletter that shows how to get the most out of your busy work and family life. It is filled with simple lifestyle-oriented tips and tools women (and men) can put in place by taking as little as 10 minutes for them every day.
